Welcome to the Law Offices of Federico Castelan Sayre

Mr. Sayre is known as a “lawyer’s lawyer,” and is frequently called upon to try cases for other attorneys. Most notably, he was hired to litigate the Rodney King civil case, which resulted in a $3.8 million verdict against the City of Los Angeles.

Mr. Sayre’s participation in that case led to another high-profile case involving a large-scale freeway accident near Fort Worth, Texas. His willingness to put up $300,000 of his own money to produce a riveting video re-enactment of the accident resulted in a settlement totaling $12 million.

In 1999, Mr. Sayre settled a case in Kern County, California, for $7.6 million involving a collision in which five undocumented aliens were killed and one was critically burned. Also in that last year, Mr. Sayre settled a case against the MTA (Metropolitan Transport Authority) for an accident in Los Angeles in which two mothers, also undocumented aliens, died. This settlement was for $2.9 million.

In 2003, the Law Offices of Federico Castelan Sayre received an offer of zero on the case of Huertero-Saldivar v. The City of Huntington Beach. The verdict was $2.1 million.

In 2004, in the case of Tanguay v. The City of Bakersfield, the case prompted an offer of $2 Million pre-trial. The verdict from the jury was $4.2 Million. Also in 2004 in the case of Orozco v. County of Orange, the offer was $10,000 and the gross verdict was $4.2 Million. Further, in 2004 in the case of Curiel v. Centralia School District, there was no offer and the gross verdict was $1.3 Million. These types of results lead to improved settlement offers in other cases.

In October 2004, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia certified a class action lawsuit in St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands. Mr. Sayre has maintained an office in St. Croix for four years exclusively handling this case. The class is approximately 5,000 Black and Hispanic Virgin Islanders who were discriminated against by the Federal Government in the rural home loan program according to a civil rights investigation team’s report of the Federal Government. The local court had ordered mediation to begin on or before May 15, 2005.

Mr. Sayre was also among the trial counsel on behalf of 339 investors who lost their pensions for a four and one-half month trial against Price Waterhouse Coopers. The jury found in favor of Mr. Sayre’s clients and against Price Waterhouse Coopers. After the verdict, the case settled for a confidential amount, the largest amount of money that Mr. Sayre has ever achieved in a single case.

In March 2004, the Daily Journal had a front page story of Mr. Sayre and his firm because of their success in the Appellate Courts. In the last four years, Mr. Sayre and his firm have won 14 reversals in Orange County, Los Angeles County and Fresno County, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In January 2006, Mr. Sayre settled the case of Rubio v. Pepe’s Towing for over $2 Million. This was a wrongful death case of a low-income Hispanic immigrant, which was settled in approximately six months of the wrongful death. Mr. Sayre also settled a case against a major automobile company and a major manufacturer of tires in the amount of $8.4 Million in February 2006. Also, in 2006, he settled a case for a child that was run over by a school bus. The child will receive over $9 Million over his lifetime.
